Proxy logs analysis report by GuardLogic

The table below contains information about web sites requests taken from two proxy servers responsible for communication with .pl domain (LogA) and with the other domains (LogB) working in one of the Polish companies. Both servers provided communication for about 1000 users. The logs registered one month history. There are near 30 millions text lines in both logs.

LogA

The analysis focused on HTTP GET method requests and text/html and image/* HTTP responses. The HTTP requests could be divided into three group using GuardLogic technology:
XXX - porn web sites requests,
Clean - request to web sites initially defined as non-porn sites,
Other - requests to web sites defined as niether porn nor non-porn.

Log2

The conclusions dereived from the results conained in the tables above:
- porn web sites requests make up "merely" 1,35% of all the requests,
- 72% requests were addressed to web sites classified as "Clean" by GuardLogic
- the numbers of image enitities in both above cases were practically equal.

Conclusion!

Access to porn web sites is connected with download of large amount of data which is comparable to non-porn data amount in a case of images. Such a data transfer wastes internet link bandwidth. Data taken from web sites uses disk space or network resources increasing their usage degree. These effects in turn increases operating costs of the company (just like risk of getting virus or a threat of black PR in the case the problem becomes public).

Collected data confirms the fact of getting pornographic content by PCs installed in the company. The chart below shows that that activity takes place every day of the month and during all the day.

chart

The chart presents the number of porn web sites requests during a working day (based on the data taken from LogA and LogB).
